Under the direction of the Conservation Supervisor, the Conservationist I performs the following duties:
• Supervise a crew of 8-15 Corpmembers, young adults ages 18-29, in a variety of conservation & fire-related projects.
• Supervising duties can include nights and weekends, as assigned.
• Train, evaluate, and counsel the Corpsmembers that are under their supervision.
• Maintain the Care, Maintenance, and Security of State Equipment and Property.
• Perform recordkeeping and follow personnel administration guidelines.
• Respond to emergencies as required, including statewide & national emergencies.

This position will report to the San Diego Center located at 401 W 35th St, Suite A, National City, CA 91950, USA
Class C Commercial License – Provide evidence that a Class C Commercial license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle special endorsement has been obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Pre-employment Drug Test – In accordance with the Federal Highway Administration regulations (49 CFR, Part 382), persons hired to a class requiring a commercial driver license must take and pass a pre-employment drug test.
Background Investigation – Undergo fingerprinting and successfully pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) which may or may not also include a background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
Medical Exam - A medical clearance exam is required for this classification.
Grooming Standards - Must be in compliance with the Center’s grooming standards. (A copy of the Grooming standards will be provided upon appointment).
Note- Candidates will be required to pass the following trainings upon appointment
CalFire Type I Fire Training Program - Position requires successful completion of the CalFire Type I 80-hour Fire training program. This includes a vigorous physical fitness portion of the training.
