Our challenge

We are seeking a highly experienced Java Architect with a strong background in the banking or financial services industry to lead the design, development, and architecture of our core banking systems, payment platforms, or financial applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, domain knowledge, and leadership skills to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant solutions.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Dallas, TX or Pittsburgh, PA. is $125k - $130k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture design and technical oversight of large-scale banking/financial applications.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and development teams to translate requirements into robust, scalable solutions.
  • Define and enforce best practices, coding standards, and architectural principles for Java-based systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations, security standards, and data privacy laws.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, frameworks, and tools relevant to banking/finance.
  • Develop detailed technical specifications, integration strategies, and system documentation.
  • Mentor and guide development teams on complex technical challenges and best practices.
  • Conduct performance tuning, optimization, and load testing of applications.
  • Lead efforts for system integration, middleware, banking protocols (such as ISO 20022, SWIFT), and API design.
  • Oversee migration, upgrade projects, and cloud adoption initiatives.
  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and disaster resilience of critical financial systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience in Java development and architecture, specifically within banking, payments, capital markets, or financial services .
  • Strong understanding of core banking systems, payment processing, settlement, and transaction management.
  • Deep expertise in Java, J2EE, Spring, Hibernate, and related frameworks.
  • Experience with banking protocols (ISO 20022, SWIFT, FIX, JSON/XML APIs).
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR, KYC/AML compliance).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) in a financial context is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of microservices, SOA, APIs, and middleware solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership experience in technology projects and teams.
